I agree with Colleen. Why? Every child develops in different stages and time tables. There is no need to force a child to sit or stand. Each healthy child will develop these skills when they are ready. Allowing a child to develop these skills in a loving nurturing home will be what helps this baby grow. Now I don't believe that it will cause a permanent curve in the child's back. I've never heard of that one before. What will damage a child is leaving them in a crib on there back, or in a car seat. Babies need human contact, nurturing, loving play, and tolerated stimulation. Once a child can hold up their head and has muscle control over their arms and legs, a saucer chair with toys is fine. Even though they can not stand on their own, this will also help the baby develop more independence.
Good luck and love that baby... They are blessings.

you can't make a child do anything before they are ready for it. My father-in-law worked with my husband to start walking as early as possible. He was walking by 6-7 months and has for most of his life had foot and leg problems requiring him to now wear orthodics and he is only 25 this summer.

The heavier a baby is the longer it will take them to start walking on their own but the average is 1 year. My son was 28Lbs at 12 months, he was walking on his own at 12 1/2 months. Each baby is different, but please don't push them to grow faster than they already are. My mother-in-law dreaded the fact that my husband was walking so early because he would go and empty every drawer in the house once he started walking, soon after she had 2 little boys toddling around the house getting into twice as much stuff.

It would depend on how long you force a baby into these positions if it would have any lasting damage.

Babies grow fast enough as it is, don't be in a hurry for them to move to different stages until their muscles and bodies are ready to support them. Enjoy each phase of the babies development for what it is. At 3 months the baby is probably discovering her hands, and toes and will be very communicative with babbling and trying to get the adult to respond. Go ahead and talk to them, it helps their mental development of language.

A 3month old is too young to hold him/herself up. It really doesn't help the spine. But having baby in a jolly jumper is a good thing. I think at this point tummy time is more important as it encourages strength in the chest muscles. You can hold baby under the armpits and stand baby up on your knees for a few moments while you are cooing/babbling/talking and playing...but really 3 months is very young.

Do you mean just propping them in a sitting position, or holding them in a standing position? If that is what you are asking, then it is okay. When my second baby was ONE MONTH old, the pediatrician laid him on his back, took him by both arms, and very slowly [not jerking] brought him to a standing position. I would NEVER have done that!

No it is not ok to do that. The baby is not strong enough. I'd be worried about the babys neck it is still pretty fragile at 3 months.

don't do it until the child does it themselves. they have to be able to roll over on their own first. so if they fall over, they can move. it bends their bones if you put too much weight on them too early.

Why would you WANT to physically harm your child? I don't get it?
