I expect my children to respect the rights of others and their elders. I believe a certain amount of respect should be offered to anyone I meet, until they prove otherwise. A respect that is revered though is earned with time.

No you earn respect and to children you teach respect, but once loss it is hard to get back.

I expect respect only in return after I have given my respect.
I believe regardless of age or how you feel about someone you should always respect someone in a "higher position" than you...
For example: Respect your elders. Whether or not you "like" your elders does not matter. Respect them simply because they are older.

I think that everyone should be respectful to someone they dont know. I usually expect more or less from my friends or enemies

Yes..and I give it...just like you said...if you give respect you should receive it. If I give a person respect and they are not respectful they are no longer in my life! Even if I had to see them everyday...I would ignore them.

I do, and I give it readily and without pretense. If someone does something to disrespect me, I give them several chances. I still show them respect, but my opinion can be diminised and it takes work for them to get it back.
