That is a hard one since technology has progressed in leaps and bounds since the advent of the industrial age. With this technological advancement comes improvements in medicine, education and culture diversity (to name a few), but is that a great achievement for mankind? Doesn't this technology also provide us with more efficient ways to kill each other as well?
So, with this in mind I am going to choose the search for human enlightenment as our greatest achievement.
More then any other time in history people are searching for spiritual guidance, enlightenment and understanding of their fellow man. We have more acceptance, compassion and understanding for others culture and ways of doing things than ever before. This can be seen in everyday things like western medicine validating and in some cases even recommending eastern alternatives (just one example). Sure technology helps us share this information but it is the human who is the driving force behind the search for the enlightenment!
It was hard to explain in writing so I hope I made at least some sense! :)
