I have a commercial audition this Thursday, and I want to practice acting and doing a slate and stuff. Does anyone have any advice? Thank you so much!

Read lines out of scripts, recite poetry, practice enounciation... They really do help. It's also good to say things in front of a mirror and work on facial expressions, body language, etc.

In commercials they are looking for someone who fits the exact look and sound. Often they combine one persons look with another persons voice for the right effect.

They will look at hundreds of people and choose the right person.

Because what they want is so exact you should practice on versatility and following directions.

In particular have a range of experiences you can recall to bring out the right emotions quickly and easily and practice these.

If you have camera practice them in front of a camera (rather than a mirror) to see how well you are going.

do it in front of a video camera
and replay your work every 3-4 times
and improve on what you think looks bad

be hard on yourself
what you notice, judges will notice 10 times more

Read out loud as much as you can. Don't act, just read for sense.
