Read lines out of scripts, recite poetry, practice enounciation... They really do help. It's also good to say things in front of a mirror and work on facial expressions, body language, etc.

In commercials they are looking for someone who fits the exact look and sound. Often they combine one persons look with another persons voice for the right effect.
They will look at hundreds of people and choose the right person.
Because what they want is so exact you should practice on versatility and following directions.
In particular have a range of experiences you can recall to bring out the right emotions quickly and easily and practice these.
If you have camera practice them in front of a camera (rather than a mirror) to see how well you are going.
