Don't drink coffee after 11am - seriously, we take caffiene/coffee for granted, but it's quite a potent anti-somnambulist (stops you sleeping)
After a hard day at work, start by having a hot bath (if you've not been at work, try doing a workout before your bath)
Get a small glass beaker filled with ice, pour in an inch of whisky (go for a good single malt if you can afford it - I like Glenmorangie 18 year old, but Glenfiddich, Jamesons etc are good. NOT bells/teachers/grouse - horrible chemical cr*p)
Drink straight or with soda/water (avoid sugary mixers, these'll keep you awake) while smoking a spliff of NICE skunk (not this f*ckin gritweed that's around everywhere)
Of course it's not healthy to do this every day, but a couple of days on the run to help get your routine back in line doesn't hurt
:P

I posted this as another answer but it's also relevant here..hope it helps :)
I was told this technique by a social worker who uses it to help calm and relax hyperactive children...
Regulate your breathing for 5 second intervals...breathe in for 5, out for 5 etc...whilst doing this close your eyes and imagine the best moment of your life,or a similar thought or place that makes you feel really happy.
Do this for 15-20 minutes and you should feel relaxed enough to sleep. Also a hot drink before bed and a couple of drops of lavender oil on your pillow should help too...

Hot chocolate made with milk always puts me to sleep. I will actually fall asleep in the chair after I get through drinking it BEFORE I get up to put the cup up. I really love hot chocolate, but I don't like drinking it especially if I am watching a movie cause I will never see the end of the movie.

My answer from personal & family experience is dramamine, usually sold over-the-counter to combat seasickness, but is recommended by my naturopath and osteopath, since it is actually a non-habit-forming muscle relaxant, and it works very well as a sleep aid. I also suggest you check out http://honestmed.com (HonestMED), which offers over 700 pages of medical news, information, and blogs where you can get much more info. Nitey, nite!!

chamomile tea, sleepy time tea, a glass of wine, warm milk with a teaspoon of honey. I have a hard time going to sleep as well and the chamomile tea worked well for me. I use 2 tea bags to give it more flavor...good luck!

(even if its not a best answer it gives good karma- I hope!)

Try chamomile tea, warm milk or if you have to use meds, try a Benadryl tablet or two.
