Hello! Thanks for taking time to read this question! Your input is greatly appreciated! I am 31 weeks pregnant with my second child and i have become facinated by the concept of baby wearing. I have looked at several sling and pouch style baby carriers but most of them seem to be made for average size parents. If anyone has a good reccomendation for a baby carrier made for plus size parents or maybe a pattern to make one i would appreciate it! Thanks again!

I bought a Hipmelon pouch sling, and now have a doodlebug mei tai carrier. I am about a size 18. The sizing for slings measure from your shoulder, across your chest, to your hip. Most sites have a chart, or you can usually contact them with your measurements and they can tell you what size you need to order. Also, another option for you could be a ring sling, which can be adjusted. Wraps are also a good option, even though I have never tried one myself.
I found a ton if great information on www.thebabywearer.com. They also have a for sale or trade forum, where you can usually find carriers for less, and can sell them there if you do not like them.

Look for something specifically called the Over the Shoulder Baby Holder. Its a sling that can go from newborn to large toddeler. They come in many sizes. I ordered a regular, I wear L,XL now, and it was really big too. We also got the extra large Baby Bjorn since my husband is bigger and he wears it just fine.

Have you ever seen the Ultimate Baby Wrap?
I've never used it myself, but I saw one on a lady one time, and ever since then, I've been wanting one! Ha! And I'm not even pregnant yet! :) It's just a long, long piece of fabric that wraps around you. It is supposed to be very comfy and not hurt your back at all. As far as it being for plus size, I'm not sure. But seeing as how you adjust it yourself, I would imagine it would work fine.

Just look it up online, it looks great!

i am plus size as well and have found that the mei tai sling works perfect for me...i made mine from a queen size bed sheet and a pillow case...but you can easily find one online. also i know a moby wrap works well for plus size moms and there again you can make it out of a long sheet of fabric, saving you a LOT of money. i have included a link to a wonderful baby wearing site that should help:) good luck!! my son is 15mths old and i still wear him..it is sooo comfy for he and i and such a close bonding experience!

Try the cuddly wrap by pea pod creations - it's a huge peice of cloth that you can wrap around and it's full figure friendly unlike say a snugli...you can get 'em on ebay for pretty cheap.
