Alright well since almost everyone is this forum gave retarded answers here is the real answer...What really matters is neutral is going to be between 1st and 2nd gears on the bike. The clutch is the lever on the left handle bar. Pull in the clutch all the way to the grip. Put your left foot on top of the shifter while the clutch is still pulled and kick it down. That is 1st gear. Now rev the engine a little higher (not much and don't race the engine) and slowly let out the clutch. The rpms will drop a bit and you will slowly start to move. As the rpms drop pull the throttle more and let out the clutch all the way. The rest is easy. Shifting up to second is what even experienced riders can mess up on because neutral is between 1st and 2nd gears. If you miss second gear and accidently shifted up to neutral pull in the clutch and shift up once more. So now that your moving in 1st pull the clutch all the way in put your left foot under the shifter and kick up release the clutch while slowly putting more throttle. Same thing for the rest of the gears. Down shifting is easy, but if you are a begginer it would be easier for you just to get used to up shifting and breaking. So for now just pull in the clutch and press the breaks. Once you start to get used to all this, this process will become much easier and go a lot smoother. So the shift pattern is 1st gear = one kick down, the rest of the gears you kick up. I started out learning on dirtbikes and now that i'm in college I have moved myself up to a couple crotch rockets.

generally the gears are one click down is first gear, toe under lever and up-shift through the rest pull in the clutch (lever on the left of the handle bar before engaging any gear the slowly let it out while increasing the throttle ) and rip it up! remember that the front brake is used for most of your stopping power but at the same time it is an awesome way to eject! practice practice practice!!! enjoy, and wear a helmet

The only way to get good at anything is to practice. First off (assuming you know how to start it) let the engine warm up. Brfore you even start your bike it would be a good idea to read through your bike's manual. Anyway, start it up and after it is warmed up and your ready to ride, pull in the clutch (lever on the left) and shift into first gear using your left foot by pushing down on the shifter. Give the bike a LITTLE gas so it just starts to rev up out of idle speed and slowly release the clutch. Once the RPM's get high enough on the engine, you'll need to up shift. To do this, Pull in the clutch and let off the throttle all the way (try to do this at the same time so the engine doesn't rev up and skid when you drop the clutch again) and using your left foot, pull up on the shifter. Do this all the way up if you need to. To slow down, pull in the clutch and gently pull on the front brake lever (right hand) and push down on the rear brake pedal with your right foot. You can also downshift to slow down (pull the clutch and click down on gear with left foot) but give it a little gas too when you drop the clutch again so you don't skid. Turning is just like it is on a pedal bike.
Start out slow and get comfortable with your bike before you start rippin' it up. Wear a helmet and you'll be fine. If you still need help, talk to some of your friends or a powersports dealer and they'll be glad to help you out. Sure it might be embarrassing, but it's better than dying when you don't know what to do when riding. I got started by riding with a friend.
Bythe way, if you don't know how to start your bike, make sure the bike is in neutral (the gear pattern is 1st is down then going back up it's neutral, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th) But make sure it's in neutral then either push the starter button or kick it over with the kick start. Let the kick starter engage first before trying to start the engine. Pull the choke on a cold engine too. And make sure the gas is on, and that you shut it off everytime you aren't riding the bike for a long period. (Overnight, shut it off).
Hope this helps.

To ride a dirt bike u have to pull the clutch in. Next, u have to putit in firstgear. Next u have to give it a little gas and feather the clutch. When uare moving the rpm's will increase and u have to pull in the clutch and use your left foot to pull up on the gear shifter. reapet the process as necassary.

its easy, just hold the clutch down everytime you shift release the throttle real quick then release the clutch and give it gas. and when you down shift just hold the clutch in and downshift to the gear u want at the appropiate speed.
