It can refer to many different things, but basically it means transforming a funcyion into an equivalent function that is esier to solve. For example the LaPlace transforms greatly facilitate the solution of differential equations by transforming the differential equation into an algebraic equation.

Similarly, it is often beneficial to transform a polar coordinate system to a cartesian coordinate system.

Transforming a parametric equation by eliminating the parameter is sometimes advantageous.

we did this earlier in the year. remember it's where you translate(slide) rotate(turn) or reflect(mirror image) sumthin on a coordinate plane
