There is a big money in cricket, coming from various sources.
Moreover, people in India are crazy for the game of cricket.
Nobody utters a single word against matches/tournaments being organized during annual examinations in India. They even don't bother to think about consequences, not worried about future of their children because of matches being played during exam days!
Sponsorers are interested in cricket only. So they market cricketers for their personal benefit. It is upon us to make other games more popular than cricket, then only money will flow in other games too, thus more and more sponsorers will start taking interest in other games and so it will get encouragement.

One of major reasons is that Indians don't think much broad mindedly when it comes to terms of encouraging stuff. Most Indians don't like performing selfless acts or works and most of times are very business minded, always like to see their share of profit out of anything first. I am not blaming it on anyone because I am too Indian and am also like it! Even the govt., who's supposed to take care of the country and its people properly always have had topped the list! Every time if there would be some work that will result in strengthening the country and its economy, a bunch of lousy self-centered politicians eat money out of it and there starts another scandal/case for years and in the end becomes a Govt. File and home to cockroaches sitting in some broken-old cupboard filled with similar old "Govt. Files".

We are good when it comes to talking abt how we DONT encourage other games. The Indian team might be pathetic. But
Before they play,we watch all those lousy programmes which rake in some oldies to talk abt the game.Even filmstars and some tarot card readers.

When they play,we wach ball by ball and even go to the temple and worship the so called god-for-nothing cricketers.

When they lose,we sit and think abt the golden days when we will win the World Cup.

So when do we habe to think abt anything else other cricket?

What's wrong?? still cricket is second to soccer. I like to see cricket becoming most famous sports in the world and I love to see Chinese , Japanese, Russians,Americans and middle east countries playing Cricket, then you worry about this.

In this game we have enough time to waste. That is why it is played in about roughly eight countries only. In which other sport can you contine for five days, most often without a result! And just imagine, the richest and the 'connected' amongst us watch the game free, courtesy the passes and connections. This is justice!!

'Who cares!' is the attitude. You are also perhaps asking this question because we lost!

Media(particularly electronic media), Sports ministry & advertisers are to be blamed that they're doing injustice to other more interesting sports like hockey, football, squash ,billiards & tennis ball cricket test matches which will finish in 2 days & not require helmets but who cares ? I'm very sorry to say that I could not find any reliable & competent coaching centre for squash & billiards for girls even in metropolitan cities.

Since cricket is most popular and money minting game in India, many MNCs are coming forward to sponsor the same, whereas there is not many sponsors coming forward for other games..

Cricket is where the money is. So all the politicians, businessmen and mafia want to control it. They will not allow other sport to grow. After money matters.
