Why do some people feel the need to start cussing people out during a discussion just because they disagree with someone else? I mean, for me, it's MUCH easier to take someone seriously when they state their disagreements respectfully and reasonably. When someone gets upset and starts cussing like a sailor, it's like a child throwing a fit. I mean, do people really get THAT upset just because someone doesn't agree with them? It's sad.

When someone starts swearing and yelling, as far as I'm concerned, they have "lost the argument". They will have lost their ability to state their case clearly, as they have simply lost their temper and don't neccessarily make much sense. It doesn't mean they weren't actually right in the first instance, though, hehe.

If someone starts yelling at me or swearing at me, I end the discussion there and then. It has degenerated and isn't worth continuing. This is also normally when they spout irrelevant garbage, like:

"No, the Earth rotates on it's axis once every 24 hours, and goes around the sun every 365 days"
"GRRR, you don't get it - I'm talking about the SEASONS!!!"
"Oh, well that wasn't clear when you mentioned-"
"For F's sake, why am I even arguing with the girl with the biggest bum in the state!" <--- drivel, and this person needs to calm down.

I think that sometimes people have just never thought about the alternate point of view and tend to brush off any ideas that contradict their own. Then when they're faced with an incompatible thought, they feel confused and frustrated. Some people are able to experience confusion and frustration and still keep their cool, but others react without thinking and say things they may later regret! Believe me, I feel the same was as you do when I read a post or hear an argument in which a person throws around nasty language and calls people "stupid" instead of attempting to communicate her own side of the story.

Some people think it gives their words a more powerful meaning. Others are simply used to using bad language, unfortunately. And over the internet, people care less about what the other person cares or thinks. Some people create a different personality for themselves online, so over the internet they can be a different person than they are in real life.

There are more reasons, maybe, and I don't agree with any of them, because I am against the use of bad language. I guess they just don't realize that if their point was important, they would be able to state it without using bad language.

Disagreement leads to frustration. When you are frustrated, it can lead to anger. When you are angry, you can loose control. When you loose control, it can lead to bad language.

A better way is to realize that all of us, hold and do have their own opinion. Allowing each of you (the two parties in the disagreement) to share their points of view in a forum that is mutually respectful can go a long way in resolving an issue. Simply "being heard" can help. And allowing the other party to express their views, whether you agree or not, is helpful. Finally, agree to disagree and accept some compromise is also good.

"bad language" is there so people can properly express themselves. I don't think that people should take it as an attempt to offend someone, but rather as a way of expressing how strongly one feels about certain issues. Everyone drops the eff bomb at some point.

Same here!! I truly think most small-minded people believe the only way they will be taken seriously is if they cuss. No, it makes them sound like middle school kids, sorry. Seventh graders cuss profusely to make themselves look grown up. Adults should know better!!!

Most people who curse are people who don't have the intelligent thoughts to insult you , so they curse at you. I am like that only I am cut throat too...(I say things that hurt). But disagreeing is another story. I don't let those get that heated. Some people need to learn to walk away.

1.Because They never set rules for arguing. No yelling, no name calling.
2. Because they might be insecure and their ego woke up to protect them by trying to change your focus.
3. Because they feel they are not being heard, so they thought maybe you'd hear that ?

There are alot of reasons
