I like AD-AWARE and SpyBot Search & Destory. Get these for FREE from
http://www.download.com
Install, run, update and scan your computer with both programs.
These are cleanup tools. Ad-aware cleans files, and SpyBot cleans the
registry.

On my computer, I have installed Windows Defender, Lavasoft's Ad Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy. I use Windows Defender for real time protection. Ad Aware Personal Edition does not have any real time protection. Spybot does have a real time protection feature but it is more trouble than its worth. I highly recommend all these programs. I don't dispute that all 3 programs pale in comparsion to commercial products, like Spyware Doctor or SpySweeper. These 2 programs are stellar in preventing and removing spyware. Unfortunately, they are incredible resource hogs and will slow down any computer. They use close to 100MB of RAM and, when scanning, use 99% of the CPU. I feel you need to find a balance between protection and performance, which is why I stick with the first 3 programs mentioned above.

Download and run SpyBot S&D> http://www.safer-networking.org/...
Then you can get a free tool ( Startup Guard )that will never let your home page be hijacked. You will have to wait about 20 seconds whenever your computer has to be restarted (to accept the run once application to run at startup)
http://www.acelogix.com/freeware.html...
You should go to Trend Micro and do an online virus scan> http://housecall.trendmicro.com/...
All computers should have a good Antivirus installed. A couple of good, and free programs are; AVG, and Avast.

Windows Defender - its free and blocks spyware. Most other programs remove spyware after the fact. I use Adaware occasionally just to be sure.

most virus are spread through IE. IE is not a safe browser. you should use a more secure browser to protect your PC from virus.
i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can block any any popup and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE browser. as you know, most of virus spread throught internet and webpage.
besides, firefox is much smaller than IE, so it run faster than IE.
download firefox for free, Just have a try:
