I'm trying to replace a tap cartridge in a shower mixer tap, but the old cartridge just will not come out. The stem sheared right off in handle, so just replacing the washer was not an option. I paid $30.00 for a replacement tap cartridge assmebly, but the defective one will not budge. I've tried a very large pipe wrench on it, but it still will not budge. Is there some trick I'm missing? I don't want to force it too much as I am afraid I will rip the pipes right out of the wall if I get too heavy-handed.

Try some aerosol hairspray !!
NO I'm not !!!
something in it breaks down the calcium build-up
buy some plummers grease for the new one
(a little dab will do you)
