From my personal collection of recipes:

Cotterall's 'Indonesian-style' Hamburgers with satay sauce

Prep: 1 hour, can be frozen without sauce

Ingredients:

1 lb. lean ground beef
1/2 cup cooked rice
2 tablespoons ketchup
1 green jalapeno, diced
2 teaspoons grated gingerroot
2 tablespoons ketjap manis, or Indonesian soya sauce
2 tablespoons flour
1/4 cup cooked white onion, minced
1 egg, beaten
salt and pepper
sesame and soya bean oil, mixed to moisten, grill and coat

1 package satay sauce, prepared according to directions
sourdough buns
butter, mayo, slices of cucumber, green peppers, green-leaf lettuce and onion. Stay away from tomatoes, the flavour doesn't work. Cheese is not really suited, either, unless it is a very mild cheese like Swiss.

Mix ground beef in a bowl with ketchup, jalapeno, onion, gingerroot and soya sauce. Make a well in the middle. Add the egg and some oil. Mix in with the hands and add the rice. Mix very well. Set aside, covered.

Warm up sauce in the microwave and leave on reheat. Meanwhile, heat up a hibachi or barbecue and brush with oil.
Pour some oil into a plate and place flour mixed with a little salt and pepper on another. Form patties and dredge in oil and then flour. Cook over grill. Flip every four minutes, till well-done.

Toast sourdough buns and place lettuce, onion, cucumber and green pepper on each. Place meat on patties. Leave butter and mayo on side. Serve with sauce on side. Makes 6 medium burgers. This is great with a nice Indonesian-style salad and some roasted nuts.

Making hamburgers is easy, however, making a really good hamburger, now thats a question. Yes you want ground beef as others have said, but not just any ground beef. You want ground chuck that is at least 90 percent lean.. buy a nice burmuda white onion and finely chop it. Next you mix the meat and the onion untill the onion is spread throughout the meat.. shape it into a ball.. then press it to a round flat shape about one half inch think.. salt and pepper both sides to you taste.. just enough of both to establish it's presence.. now on a grill or in a good skillet, cook at medium heat so that the meat reaches at least 150 degrees internal temperature.. turn it often and press it flat as you go.. once you have browned it on both sides and pressed it, put a lid on it and let it continue cooking till it is completely cooked to well done.. now.. if you are going to use a bun.. place the bun on top of the meat and replace the lid.. lower the heat to a simmer.. about 2 or 3 on the dial.. wait a couple of minutes and then remove the warm bun.. put whatever you want on the bun, catsup or mustard and cheese if you wish.. put the meat on the bun top it off with some nice fresh lettuce and NOW you have a hamburger..

To make hamburgers, you need to get ground beef, and make it into the hamburger meat shape. Then, you put it on the grill, or you can put it in the oven.

get some ground beef and put it in a bowl. Mix in whatever seasonings you want (chili powder, pepper, salt, etc.), mold the ground beef into a circular shape and turn on the skillet to medium, and cook each side for 5 minutes.
