How do you motivate someone to do homework? clean their room? eat? get out of bed?

I believe action comes first, and motivation comes after as a result of how the person feels after accomplishing something. I rarely feel motivated to take out the trash, but once it's done I feel a (small) sense of satisfaction. I think as people get older/wiser they realize that the stress of leaving things undone is greater than the stress of just getting up and getting it done. Also, I find lists helpful as I can see that I have taken care of business.

If this person is a child, I think you could seek professional help. One approach is to try to find things that interest the person, then provide those things as reinforcement for accomplishing certain tasks. For example, giving 15 minutes extra of television time for getting out of bed on time. Fifteen minutes for doing homework on time, etc.
Another consideration might be medication; the person may be depressed or having problems focussing.
I know how difficult it can be; my son is also difficult to motivate, except he needs no motivation to watch TV or play video games!

how about letting a person be what ever they want to be, good bad, they'll choose their way, isnt that what god wanted us to do, CHOOSE good or bad, instead we beat good into our kids heads all day and wonder why they want to be bad, tell someone that they cant eat a steak and i bet that'll be the first thing eaten right in front of your face. stop telling people what to do.

Maybe being motivated is harder than motivatin' s.o to do sth!
