Because he belived his own highlight film. He believed that he was as ggod as everyone expected him to be, so he became a prima donna. And when he failed he refused to take the blame himself. And he was never put into a program that allowed him to use his strentghs and that makes a big difference in a QB's lifespan

Cryin' Ryan had a spectacular senior year at Washington State in '97 and even thought he lost in the Rose Bowl to Michigan, he was able to shake it off and ride the hype wave into the NFL Draft where he went ahead of Peyton Manning, picked by the Chargers. Most say the hype went to his head but essentially, he was uncoachable, bullheaded with a very short temper. His mechanics were poor. His vision, mediocre at best, and if he was flustered he could not disconnect from it emotionally. Ultimately it ruined his game and was his down fall. He is considered by some to be the biggest bust in NFL history.

He never had his priorities straight. Showed up to the combine weighing over 260 pounds. Way to heavy. Also he did not pay attention to film as much as other quarterbacks did. In college he ran an offense that spread the field a lot. In the pros there are a lot more formations to understand. Always blamed others for his mistakes and therefore nobody on his team really wanted to see him succeed.

he was just another product of a good system. Look at Gino Toretta ( won heisman from Miami) -a bust

*Jim Drunkinmiller from Virginia- another high rated QB that was a bust

*Joey Harrington

- all these guyes were product of the system that they were running.

He was picked too high. He had a bad attitude, and had it in college as well. That is why teams are now paying more attention to the past as well.

He was a punk. A ton of talent but no character. Saw a piece on him recently, he has owned up to his crappy behavior so give him credit for that.

Mostly mental. This is why so much time is spent at the combine interviewing players.
