XP is about 4 years old, came out after Windows 2000.
While the operating system a user chooses to install does not necessarily indicated how old the computer is, I would say that the fact that it has a Pentium 3 would indicate it is considerably older than 6 months - that processor is an oldie as processors go.

Custom c. it's right. I found in a compact room in the Apt building where I live a Panasonic Pentium 2 256GB ram and a 10GB HD.
One day I was trying to found out the value of this laptop on the web, and I saw a brand new, same model same hardware, except for OS Windows XP and the price was $1.000.
The OS in mine was Windows 95. later on I changed it for XP.
What you should do is to ask for the purchase receipt.

No, Windows XP Professional has 32-bit and 64-bit versions. If your friend has it it's probably 32-bit.
