I don't know but I don't like it either, especially with people I'm supposed to be friends with. I've had friends just hang up when they're done talking. I don't mind a "nice talking to you...peace" or "take care"...but say SOMETHING, you know..."talk to you later," "see you tomorrow..." Whatever. It doesn't have to be goodbye, but give some closing statement, don't hang up.
I had a friend tell me once that saying "goodbye" means it's the end: you're not going to see each other anymore.
Another friend won't say goodbye even when we're done talking in person; she just leaves. I think it's rude. I think she just feels uncomfortable saying it. I have a feeling it seems like a "commitment" to say something like that. If you're just talking casually, you can walk away at any time and pretend like there was no commitment to the conversation, but if you say "bye" it implies more possession and loyalty.
I don't know, that's just what I think.
I always say "bye" or some form of it when I get off the phone or leave a face to face conversation.

Good Bye is the worst thing to say to someone. I just say til next time. My aunt has never said good bye on the phone because she has always said that goodbye sounds so forever.

I still say goodbye. I just guess teens think it's un-cool to say goodbye on the phone. I know what is up with this?

Because people don't care anymore, don't like you, or doesn't have time anymore. It's the same thing with work. A lot of people work 12 hours a day. All it is: is no time no time no time. Busy busy busy. It's a shame but this is the 21st century.

mm mostly I've noticed slang such as "Peace" b4 hanging up.
Maybe we don't feel the need to talk on the phone as much as we used to..idk
I have noticed people saying they prefer texting or instant messaging over actually talking on the phone.
I always say bye in some way shape or form, its just polite.
