You left out the far and away most important defensive stat >Range Factor< Omar Vizquel has incredible hands but below average range< Ozzie had incredible range and very good hands.

IMHO Ozzie Smith should not be in the HOF and there are several others in the same boat. The HOF should be for the greats of the game, not the, he was pretty good for a long time and a real nice guy.

Ozzie Smith right now because he is in the Hall of Fame but it could be Omar Vizquel once and if he gets to Cooperstown.

You have to go with Ozzie he was more clutch. Omar's stats might look a little better but Ozzie hit a home run to continue the Cardinals run in the '82 playoffs. Hey they ended up winning the World Series that year. What else do I have to say?

Obviously Vizquel has the better numbers however he has never tried to sell himself to the public or the baseball writers association. As a former sports reporter I have very little respect for many of those who belong to the baseball writers association. Too many of them are not even involved with baseball anymore and haven't been for years.

Ozzie Smith sold himself to the public and to the baseball writers as well. He made it a point to be "likable" which he was. He was a great talent and knew how to enhance that skill with his acrobatics. The impressionable baseball writers bought into it and eventually voted Ozzie into the hall of fame.

Ozzie Smith!

He's just got all the right numbers. He went down in history, and he's amazing. It's just that simple.
