It seems that you assume that the waking state is the only reality, Beta is no more valid than Theta it is just a different part of the whole experience. As a witch I listen to my dreams a great deal, there is so much I can realise both in terms of spiritual knowledge and depth of understanding from my dreams...expanding the sense of what you call 'real life' may show you many things

Dreams are our minds way of processing our worries and our days events. If we didn't dream, we would go insane.

Some people say that they don't dream but everyone dreams, it's just that some people can not remember their dreams.

I also think that some dreams are preparing us and hence the strong feelings. I think we all have a little psychic ability in us and this is more open in our dreams.

dreams to me are just a way keeping your brain busy for 8 hours think of the dream itself as your natural imagination with or without self consious control, plus dreaming stops you from being woken up because of noise or other petty iritants that aren't really a danger
