I know there is like a true cost of owning a car and it includes the wear and tear, depreciation, gas, tune ups, keep up, insurance, car payments etc. Anyone know where to get that info please ? thaks

Well, the things you have listed overlap each other and you have to begin by specifying the kind of car (luxury or compact, etc.) and how many years you intend to keep it (changing cars every year or two is much more expensive)
There is data out there or you can just use the amount the government allows on income tax expense stuff (48.5 cents per mile in 2007) so a person driving 10,000 miles a year has allowable expenses fo $4850.00 which includes depreciation (which is allowance for wear & tear) etc.
You begin by subtracting the sale price after 2-3-4-5 years from the purchase price. Add in the interest on the money and the cost of usual maintenance. You estimate the miles and divide the total miles into the total cost.
Consumer Reports used to list the estimated cost of owning various cars.
