the ring is my favorite.. still have to see the japanese version.. but the story line is the best because it puts you in such a stage of bewilderment.. and intrigue. it really just blows away any american writing.
id say the next best is 'hard candy'. you really dont know where this movie is going to take you. the intelligence drawn into this movie .. is beyond what most horror flicks will ever be able to accomplish.
other horror flicks worth a mention
3.the others- a deffinite classic.
4.devils rejects- perfect blend of horror and humor. great raw energy.
5.land of the dead- the way a zombie movie should be done
6.dark water- spell binding is the best way to describe this.
7.the saw- not many villains seemed as intelligent as jigsaw.
8.except hannibal.. hannibal 2- umm nothing is more frightening than ray liottas scenes.
9.red dragon- i think this really put ralph fines on the map... i just loved watching him be so evil.

Poltergeist -- This is one of the few horror films I have ever seen that also manages to be a heartwarming story about a family. There were a few parts where I almost cried, lol.
The Sixth Sense -- Much like Poltergeist, this movie manages to be heartwarming and scary at the same time.
What lies Beneath -- Another good ghost flick. High-budget and big name actors. Excellent!

The Birds by Alfred Hitchcock. A physiological horror. This could really happen although I do like Sci Fi and fiction.

It was always The Exorcist 'cos I first saw it when I was 10 but definately the Japanese version of The Ring for me now. I really haven't seen anything that quite beats it, it's so creeepy... it's such fun being scared!

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, This film is excellent! Based on a true story as well.
Psycho, You can't talk about horror movies without including Alfred Hitchcock's classic!
The Ring, This movie surprised me. I wasn't expecting it to be as scary as it was. Totally unforgettable!
My compliments.

"The Shining" with Jack Nicholson. This is the scariest movie ever made in my opinion. Stephen King may not have liked it, but Stanley Kubrick is a genius! It's a classic.
