I don't think they actually 'take out' hernias. I had one - it was the intestines coming through the abdomin wall, so they sewed the wall back up and now there's no more hernia.

LADY,

REPAIRING A HERNIA IS A RELATIVELY SIMPLE OPERATION. THE SMALL TEAR WHICH THE INTESTINES ARE PROTRUDING IS KEPT OPEN UNTIL THE INTESTINES ARE PUT BACK IN PLACE, AND THEN THE SMALL TEAR IS SUTURED TO THE REPAIR IS COMPLETE. THIS IS NOT A DANGEROUS SURGERY. BEFORE THIS SURGERY TAKES PLACE WEARING A SUPPORT BELT FOR THE ABDOMEN WOULD BE A SMART IDEA.

You do not take out a hernia, it is not a cancer. it is a section of your intestine coming out of a tear in the abdominal muscle. in most cases they just push it back in and sew it up, and although the operation isn't dangerous, it is a little painful.

a hernia isn't taken out. a hernia is a hole in your abdomen where muscles etc. will protrude out through the hole. they will sew up the hole or put a mesh substance over the hole to prevent the hernia. today it's a very simple operation. good luck
