I hope you will get away from whoever is emotionally abusing you. You can check the yellow pages for outpatient mental health centers, or social services in your city may be able to refer you to an outpatient mental health center that may offer a lower rate for counseling and/or therapy. You can always call The House of Ruth in Baltimore, MD and they should be able to refer you to an outpatient mental health clinic in your area. Hotlines, in my experience, are useless and often do more harm than good. You can also check with hospitals in your city that may also have knowledge of outpatient mental health clinics. Getting away from whoever is hurting you is the best thing you can do for yourself at this point. Good luck.

maybe a local church offers free counseling to help people in that situation. People who emotionally abuse others start by breaking down their confidence and playing on their fears. If the fear is of being alone, even if they get away, the person will keep tormenting them until they go back. The best and only solution is to show them that they are wonderful and that they can find happiness and that they deserve it. It is also really good for them to be surrounded by friends and to have fun whenever possible, to show them that they can have a fun and meaningful life away from this person.
There may be some counseling centers available in their area, that would be where I would look. The church will counsel people and help them see the situation they are in as well.

The first step is to see what resources are offered by their school or employeer. Many employers and universities offer free counseling to employees and students through EAP's (Employee Assistance Programs) and counseling centers. From there they can make recommendations for professional treatment if needed.

Well, for starters, get out of the the situation you are in. As for free help, you can always talk to a pastor or priest. If you're not religious, it can still help. I am not religious, but I did talk to a priest once about problems I was having. It helped a lot.

You can walk away all by yourself. People like that have been abused emotionally so they in turn do it to others. However, it's hard to break the chain.
