One of the reasons the Beatles were influential on society has to do with the time period in which they appeared. In the early '60s, teenagers were just beginning to assert their voices as a generation, and the Beatles were something of an outlet for that voice. In addition, the Beatles appeared in the U.S. shortly after Kennedy was assassinated, so they were a sort of an optomistic antidote for a grieving nation.

hey influenced musical style, fashion, and even worldview to a degree (in that for perhaps the first time, the public cared what a pop star thought). The Beatles were mentioned in newspapers virtually every day throughout the early part of their career, and they were a part of the consciousness of nearly the entire world.

Sales figures would indicate that Beatles music is as successful now as it has ever been

It was perfect for the generation for which it was created, but one would think that subsequent generations would move on to their own music. They did, obviously, but for some reason every subsequent generation has recognized something special about the Beatles' music. It is astounding that many teenagers and children today even know, let alone appreciate, music that is 40 years old. This is a testament to something unique about the music.

today we have so many more choices, styles of music, and media outlets, it's quite unlikely that any one thing, band, or arist can capture the world's collective attention for any appreciable length of time. It's possible, of course, that another band could achieve worldwide phenomenal success, but most will fade quickly. We can witness many such instances over the past four decades.

It's obvious that the Beatles influenced society in the areas of fashion and drug use. Look at the sales of Beatle wigs, Cuban-heeled boots, and collarless jackets, as well as the rise in popularity of long hair on men.

The Beatles Influence

The Beatles are probably the most singularly influential group that music in general has ever produced, both for other musicians and for culture and society in general.

Firstly, you will find more artists that cite the Beatles as an influence than any other group. They started the "British Invasion" in the U.S., and were followed by the Kinks, Herman's Hermits, The Who, The Rolling Stones, and countless others. They also were some of the main propagators of the emerging trend of musicians recording in groups, as opposed to as solo artists. (Before the Beach Boys an other early 1950's groups, the vast majority of successful artists were solo. i.e. Muddy Waters, Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra)

Culturally, the Beatles catered to the huge group of Baby Boomers, who were just beginning to come into their own. A lot of their later albums carry songs about individuality and rebellion ("Revolution", "Come Together", and "Nowhere Man") This helped them become one of the main figureheads of the cultural revolution in the 1960's surrounding the Vietnam war. John especially took an active role in protests against the war, and war in general, with songs like "Give Peace a Chance" and Imagine". His and the Beatles already phenomenal popularity caused many many young people to follow in their footsteps, singing their songs at war protests through out the nation.

Their music and lifestyles also helped give rise to the popularization of recreational drugs in the 1960s. Other artists had used drugs previously with public knowledge, but the Beatles were the first to openly admit it to the press. This and their more psychedelic work helped to associate drugs with music in the public mind, an association that still remains today.

Hope I helped!

well your talking to the biggest beatle fan ever!
this is my answer
If you look in the time period of the early 1900's you could notice that music was very proper, oprah, classical, etc,
then the 50's came and rock n roll started to peak it's totally awesome head, lol! but anyways, people like elvis, buddy holly, and of course the beatles came along and rocked this world! a lot of old people thought of this music as barbaric, or wild, but the generation loved it! you could see that people stopped being so proper and started to let there hair down as they say, the beatles were pioneers who changed the ways of the people!
