American Muscle... Take the movie Fast and the Furious... The Car at the end that Vin Disel was afraid to drive blew out the Orange Supra across the tracks. That was an I think 8 second car. Either 8 or 9

American Muscle Cars from the 60,s and 70's are all rear wheel drive and that gives them a great advantage at the drag strip.
Old Vw bugs were rear wheel drive and had the advantage of the engine in the rear and nothing could beat them for the first 30-50 feet. Porsche has the same set up still and they move. Most 'tuners"are front wheel drive and although some can produce awesome amounts of power. They can only spin they front tires and not jump at the takeoff like a rear wheel drive can.

Now when you are talking speed, most of the old rear wheel drive muscle cars do not have the steering brakes or areodynamics to be safe The tires for drag racing are not the tires for flying down the highway.

Hollywood and TV are just that, entertainment.
Tuners can go fast, but it usually takes a lot of work and even more money to make it happen. Besides, comparing a front wheel drive four banger with a turbo and intercooler, a coffee can muffler and some fancy overpriced electronics to an American muscle car is a joke. Like apples and oranges.

Any car can go fast, but muscle cars were built to go fast from the dealer. No fancy parts neededd-unless it wasn't fast enough for you when you got it.

Tuners may talk about "old" muscle cars and technology, but if it weren't for the "old" stuuf, they wouldn't have their "new stuff.

I prefer American muscle. Hands down more power, definitley more reliable and durable under pressure.
I prefer the sound of a big, fat, three speed RB Mopar with headers and a huge cam growling under the hood over a "Folgers" can and a few expensive tricks all wrapped up in a nothing more than an oversized beer can.

American muscle looks good and does good 1/4 miles
Tuners get good mileage and handle good. Some do good 1/4 miles runs as well (turbo Supra).
Top speed goes to imports. At 150mph plus you need good suspension. Only the Vette does well here. Rx7, Zs, Supras, BMWs, Porsche and do great at high speed.
I like them all including the 70 SS.

American cars are better on 1/4 mile, but tuners are better to 60mph and they are better handling cars so they would win on a race track, but lose on a drag strip.

depends on your age group. usually to stay in the incrowd age 16 to 30 buy tuners and outfit them out. age 30 up to 50 even 60 buys 60's muscle cars . age 60 and up buys 40's and 50's hotrod and lowboys. every era of guys and gals have cars that are made in their time that they can identified with.

American muscle will almost allways come out on top. Just remember that tuners are made from cars that were designed with economy in mind.
