With most of them senators and spending two years campaining, how many total votes missed does this represent?

Even though we like our Senators to be there to vote on issues, campaigning for Presidency IS doing their job. It's exercising the potential to increase the very significance of their vote, from just a vote to a veto, if necessary. Look at the bigger picture and you'll see the value of their campaigning to become President, and how much time and effort they put it into it. I can bet assuredly that the senators you're complaining about spend more time on their job than you or I do on ours, no insult intended. I'm not sure I'd be up for either position, and I'm in relatively good health. God Bless you.

Various candidates have missed various amounts of votes.

And this is a large part of the reason why Bob Dole resigned in 1996.

The average senator is only in town to vote about three day's a week so if they are on the road, I would say about one day a week at best... nothing get done !!!
