I am currently looking at two different processors. One is a X2 5200+ with 2x1mb L2 cache and the other is a X2 5400 with a 2x512 L2 cache. Should I sacrafice L2 for processing speed or go with the slower 5200? Can't aford the 5600 w/ 2x1mb L2. And a 2.8 ghz duel core pentium with a 2x1mb L2 has only 800 mhz fsb. AMD is 1000 fsb.

Congratulations on seeing past the marketing & choosing AMD, my friend !

It really depends on how intesive the apps you plan to run are...but given that (if ever ...but I wouldn't) overclocked AMDs are very stable I would devenitely go for the X2 5200+ with 2x1mb.

The extra cache is worth far more than an extra 200MHz......especially for those 2 monsters.

technically since AMD started building the FSB onto the die, theoretically the FSB speed is equal to the processor clock speed, though you're limited by how fast data can move from the processor to the mobo. Intel still foolishly keeps the FSB on the mobo.

take the X3 5200 with the larger L2 cache.

I have the 5200+ and it rocks and like explained to me you want to larger of the 2 even though one has more GHZ.
