THE WORLD AT WAR:

At any given time in history, there are numerous wars and conflicts going on. Currently there are 40+/- conflicts in the world. The only time the WORLD WAR status is attibuted to a war is when the superpowers square off on opposite sides in open declarations of war. We are far from that scenario, altho i agree the spark is there to ignite a larger conflagaration. But for now, just think regional conflicts, proxy wars, brinksmanship, sabre rattling and disagreements between rump states.

So what makes humanity continually warring with each other? Nationalisms, racism, fight over land and resources, and megalomania among dictators...are some of the major reasons. As the world's population reaches 10 billion in 50 years at our current rate of growth, there'll be zero fossil fuels, zero coal and other natural resources. Wars will be over water. The populations will be burgeoning in the third world countries.

Will technology save the day?...unlikely Will we stop and do something before the impending train wreck?....doubtful. Will there be some cataclysmic event to bring us down to more sustainable levels, say 3 billion?.....probably

anyway, sleep tight.

If intelligent beings exist on that world, then no. Humans have already attempted to eliminate war; it didn't work. In 1928, France and the United States created the Kellogg-Briand Pact, which proposed to ban war. Quite a few nations signed it, hoping to eliminate war forever. It became effective on 24 July 1929, but obviously it didn't work. A decade later, the signatories were back at war.

Possibly after a few more centuries if Human Rights become really universal and all nations develop to a certain point both politically and economically it is possible to avoid all out war. Instead there could be disputes over commerce and its rules. And there could be national animosities expressed in competitive sports, or celebrities remarks could spark international controversies that would be played out on a global scale and a war of words over things could replace real wars. Religion would continue to decline over time even in the Muslim world and that could translate in more chances for Peace. However hatreds and animosities would always be with us. Hopefully a future system would allow for economic competition in a free global market all nations agree to.

i think it's an idealistic possiblity to have a world without war. the idea comes from a utopian way of living. but first you'd have to figure out how to stop the generating hate in this world, teach patients, come up with fool proof ways to cure the mentally disturbed, and make it an enforced law to raise our children in a loving forgiving and patient way. the kids are getting worse and worse. the have no structure, or dissapline. they are either neglected or abused. sociaty is frowning on dissapline, religion, art's. all things that a world needs to stay peaceful, funtional and more hopeful. greed and selfishness takes the place of those things, making it more and more impossible to have a warless world. i am more of a pessemist/realist than opptomist. and this is my way of thinking.. it would take an enormous amount of work.. and i think people would much rather things fall into place than to work for them. a world without war exsists, but we won't see it without excepting christ and going to heaven.

It would be lovely to think it was possible but unfortunately there are too many selfish people in this world who dictate they way things are and the way we should be for that to ever happen. Life has turned into a battle full stop as most people seem to want what they cant have and we are no longer in a freedom thinking world where we are entitled to have our thoughts feelings and lives

Not in this lifetime or any other. Sometimes war is necessary. There are plenty of evil people controlling countries. And occasionally you have one (Hitler) that wants to take over the world. So sometimes war is a necessary evil to make the world a better place.

It seems to me there has not been one single moment in all of human history when there was no war.

We had plenty of times to be peaceful, but while one place was serene, another place was in bitter conflict.

The history of people is a history of war: Romans, Greeks, Hebrews, Chinese, Aztecs, Turks, Persians, Egyptians, East Africans, West Africans, Arabs, Mongols, Vikings, Goths, Visigoths, Saxons, Danes....on and on.

The history of mankind is also the history of weapons, from stone clubs to nuclear multiple entry warheads.

So, while it must theoretically be possible to have a world without war, in practice, so far, it has proved impossible. Sadly.

It's possible, just barely. Fighting is such an ingrained habit and grievances between peoples have such a long history that the prognosis is grim.
Warfare may have begun over fighting for access to water holes and hunting grounds (later on to pasture and farmland).
Whenever resources such as food and water become scarce, people fight over them. Global warming threatens to create millions and millions of refugees who will have nothing
to survive on. Historically, such desperate people resort to arms.
If everyone adopted the Beatle's position that "All You Need is Love," the future could be different. Don't bet on it.

i think it is inevitable to not have war. People, especially, politicians, just have big egoes and promote war. People ultimately do not war but at times it is necessary to make a point across.

No, because people would always fight over something or other. That's like asking, "Do you think its possible to have alot of children without any fighting between them?"
