it depends on what model car it is. most cars have molded foam with vinyl glued onto a steel subframe. Taking it off can be a real hassle since it is glued. If you can find a cover for it if you need, check with jc whitney and other after market parts distributors for prices.

If it's cracked to the degree I suspect it's cracked, you're probably beyond repair and looking at a replacement.
If it's a particularly exotic car, it might be worth it, but if it's like an '82 Ford pickup, you'll be spending more to fix it than it is worth, and fixing something cosmetic at that.

While a repair can be attempted with one of the "As seen on TV" type liquid patches I would think a better choice is to replace or cover it. There are covers of various style, some look like a piece of carpet, others are a thin cover molded to shape and look like more like the original dash.

You can have either but at a cost.
The car's twenty five years old - I don't know how old you are but I'm sure you have some signs of age.
Same thing happens to cars as people - a few cracks and wrinkles never made your grandma worth changing did it?
(Okay, maybe it did.....)
I'd spend my money looking after the mechanical components - sounds to me like you love your car so take care of it where it counts.

It's time to replace the pad. The UV rays have done a job on the old one. You can try places like year one, JC Whitney and other old oine places. Do a search for your model car and dash pad. good luck.
