Getting fired sucks. And ignore that "I got downsized" malarky... if they were more valuable, the company would have "downsized" someone else. Losing your job gives you tremendous feelings of insecurity.

Your life stinks until you realize that your new job is finding another job. And then getting one. Don't try to beat the system, and understand that you can't get even.

Fired? I was downsized... well that is the reason they gave me. But, the day before I was downsized, I informed my employer that I was pregnant. I was a highly paid controller and I think they just didn't want to mess with paying me for a maternity leave! My life has been wonderful since! I have not returned to work...I am a stay at home mom now and I couldn't ask for anything else. I know that my previous employer did me wrong and when I see some of them out they barely speak. They know they did me wrong and they do not want to face what they did. But what they do not know is that they actually did me the best favor in the world!!

I got fired for having a mud fight with the bosses son. (He didn't get fired, go figure). I never left and just kept working. That was a long long long time ago. I now have a good job which requires no mud and I have grown out of my mud throwing years.

I wasn't fired, but downsized. There is a difference... due to a reduction in force, my department was eliminated.
It can rock your world if you don't take it in stride. I've had very positive experiences after being let go.
