Mandatory random drug testing, say 6 players every game. Season suspension with no pay for refusing a test.

Compulsory lifetime suspension for a substantiated positive test.

If they *want* to stop this, they can.

It seems to me that untill there is a test for humane growth hormone (HGH) which can be readily used that baseball is going to have a tough time cleaning up it's act. Players like Barry Bonds will always try to find a new way to get by and essentially cheat their way to home run records and fat contracts. Not to mention that everytime MLB wants stricter guidelines, the players union stops them in their tracks. Personally I think that it will take something drastic like a player dying from steroids during the season to "shake things up" and maybe wake the players and the union as to the dangers in these drugs.

The drugs are always one step ahead of the tests, so I think it is pretty much impossible to crack down on this stuff. Still, nobody has gotten anywhere close to the home run record since Barry Bonds' great season so even with steroids it isn't exactly easy to have a huge home run year.

I would think that frequent testing and consistent enforcement of the rules should help. At this point in time, the consequences need to fit the crime - we all know it's wrong and it's rampant. People who continue using should be suspended for at least a season, after all the fuss that has been made during the past few years. Perhaps they should also be placed on "baseball probation", in which they are monitored regularly while they prepare for their return to the game.

More frequent testing, including the offseason. Help fund the development of tests for substances (such as human growth hormone) for which there is currently no viable test. Don't rely entirely on drug tests, but allow other evidence of performance-enhancing drug use (such as, say, having one's trainer get arrested for dealing steroids) to be used to launch investigations into a player's behavior.

I would suggest they just repeal the steroid policy. These steroids that the media and government villainize actually are good for the health of the athletes. HGH helps them recover from injuries, for example. There's no good reason to force somebody to sit around hurt.

There are other examples. For example, NFL players cannot take allergy pills or they'll flunk a drunk test. So they have to tolerate their allergies without having access to the treatments the rest of us take for granted.

We don't need to let this politicized attack on the health of our athletes go on any longer.

First of all they need to be able to detect these "undetectable"substances.2nd of all they need to make new rules. This is how they should do it.

First time positive testing-50 game suspension.Carry on into the next season if nessessary.

2nd time positive testing-162 game suspension.Carry on into the next season if nessassary.

3rd time positive testing-Banned for life.

*all tests random at least 30 times a year

It's really simple; adopt the Olympics testing system. A third party tester who doesn't answer to the players or owners. They also test for almost everything.

By adopting Track & Field testing standards and punishments.

My hope is that the athletes who use these substances and their trainers, managers and co-athletes will gain wisdom. Wisdom is realizing the long-term far outweighs the short-term. Everyone knows these substances destroy in the long-term.
