I wish to record accordion, bass, guitar and voice so will need at least 4 jack inputs. I am not looking for a state of the art unit but one that I could make at least a demo CD with.
Any further info. welcome.

check out musiciansfriend.com or americanmusical.com and read about some of the recorders they have.
I just purchased a Tascam DP01FX 8 track digital recorder. There's two main inputs, left and right, you record one track at a time .
it's real easy to get started recording. and I think that unit lists about $500 or so, you can get it for maybe 300 - 350.
Or there is another one the DP01 without the FX (effects is the major difference in the two)
when you get everything recorded you can send it to your computer or a CD recorder and make a CD from it.
Once you've decided, check the prices at both of those places, then compare on EBay.

I should add... there's 2 1/4" phone jack inputs and 2 multipin input jacks for microphones with the multipin plug. otherwise if your mic has the phone plug you can also use 1/4" inputs.
You can actually record two instruments/tracks at once.
