I had the same problem. It's the rubber seal at the opening of the disposal. If it doesn't come out (mine doesn't) you need to pull it up and clean the inside of it with an old dobie scrubber pad( the kind with the plastic mesh over a sponge). Just clean it with a scouring powder like comet. Make sure to wear rubbe gloves because what you are going to find will disgust you. If you have a lemon you can cut it up and rub it on there when you are done cleaning it. Or maybe pour some lemon juice on it. In the future do this every once in a while to keep it clean.

Often times the rubber seal at the neck of the disposal gets caked up with gunk/food... It turns into a really bad stink caused by bacteria.. Once in a while if you remove it and scrub it down with a little bleach water or disinfectant, it will cut the smell. I also like to pour a small amount of dish soap into my disposal on occasion while it's running. That works wonders.
If you have any old citrus fruit that you'll probably end up throwing away.. cut it up and feed it to your disposer.. Makes the whole kitchen smell better too!

Clean it. Take the rubber guards out of the opening and clean them. Mix up some dish wash liquid and a little water. Use an old vegetable brush to scrub the inside of the disposer. Do not stick your hand or fingers in the opening!!!!!!!! Do not lean over the opening and look inside!!!!!!!!!!!! while cleaning.
Fill the basin half full with water. Turn on the disposer and release the water. Replace the rubber guards.

I use either citrus (lemons or oranges) or a mix of baking soda and vinegar. If I'm using the latter, I put about a cup of white vinegar in a cup, add a few tablespoons of baking soda, and immediately pour the mix down the drain. After it has stopped bubbling, I run hot water down it for a while, then turn it to cool and run the disposal for a minute. Works every time.

Depending on what the odor actually smells like.... I use a vinegar and baking soda mix and it bubbles up. After I let that sit in there for a while I let warm water run for about a minute. I then use Arm & Hammer powder detergent and put a full scoop down there. If the oder smells like "meat"... I tend to think that means I have stuff stuck in my blades and so I use carrots or celery stocks to break that gunk loose from the blades. Let me know how it works for you :)

I use an orange to get rid of the smell. Cut it in to slices then drop them in and trun on the disposal. After about three slices put a cup of ice in to the disposal to keep the blades sharp.

Spray insecticide into the disposal, and on the sides of the chute door. It not only kills the garbage odor, but also kills vermin and germs that tend to breed in garbage handling areas. Excellent way to keep cockroaches from entering via the garbage disposal!

The citric acid from the lemons will usually take care of that .They sell a product called disposer care or something like that, it may work better. If that don't work maybe you got a broken drain pipe under the house but that smells real bad like sewage.

Pour bleach and / or Pine-sol down it while running the hot tap and the disposal. Do this for about a minute and it should deodorize and clean out your disposal.

I cut half an orange or lemon up toss it in and run it like you're clearing it out. The peel is very fragrant plus the oil cuts grease too.
