We hear about all the money political candidates raise, but never anything about where the money goes when they lose or drop out, (OR win for that matter)

The money stays in an account, and the person can still use the money for "political purposes" with that term being loosely defined. They can also donate the money to a charitable organizations.

It goes back to campaign finances for the party. If the person runs as an independent they hold on to the money should they decide to run again. Theyre not legally allowed to use monies donated to them for campaigning for anything other than campaigning.

I think they keep it. While they might be required to use the money strictly for "political purposes", that gives sleazy politicians a wide berth....to do whatever they want with all those millions. I wonder who concocted THOSE rules?? Nah, it couldn't have been our 'honorable' elected lawmakers!?!/! -RKO- 04/01/07

Some give it to other candidates in their party. Others save it for future campaigns.
