Check out Entropia Universe
It's FTP, but You can deposit if you get tired of trying to "make" money and want to buy equipment. You can Hunt, craft, mine, tailor, buy a spaceship and be a pilot (pretty much just riding people to the space station), and yes they have PVP zones available.

Vanguard rocks- but it's pretty involved. Has that sort of that original Everquest feel to it. Players are spread out on 3 continents with various human & non-human races. For example, high elves are on the northern continent, wood elves on the middle one, and dark elves on the southern land mass. Each continent has anthro races too (cat, wolf, fox etc)

There are 3 spheres or areas in Vanguard where you can level, and they are all independent of each other- adventuring, crafting and diplomacy. You gain crafting points by building things and completing work orders, diplomacy points by engaging npcs in parleys and trying to influence them.

Nothing is instanced, so entering a dungeon you'll have to stay alert, because another group might retreat right past you, and whatever was chasing them won't be happy...

The only bugaboo is you need a high-end system to play- 3ghz Intel or 3000+ AMD, at least 1gb of RAM, and a NICE video card.

Lots more info at the offical Vanguard site:
