I spent the day, in the jury room and we didn't even get a case!
The jury leader told us all "Hey, look on the bright side, this was probably the only lottery you'll ever win. We chose your 30 names out of a million registered voters!"

what the?!?~

I have been called on jury duty 2 times so far. All I did was sit there and then they sent us home. A lot of cases settle before the case is called.

I just finished answer my jury notice. And for the fourth time I was NOT selected. I do want to sit on a jury and I never get selected. This case was a high school kid bringing a gun to school. But I wasn't selected and I don't know how the case went.

Fortunately for having children small ones, i plead hardship...this was downtown L.A.~ more of a damn fire hazard than you can imagine. i instinctivly got ill from the idea of sitting with people who i KNEW would want to play god.....don't be fooled, civic duty my as*s, it doesn't wash with me....as a practicing humanitarian, i can say that the judicial system is DIFFERENT all over the country, if you question this just take a look at the pathetic courtroom dramas in the daytime...hatchett, brown...the list reads like rolll call. One woman had been ordered to have her mouth washed out with soap on national TV....I only caught the end, but i bet you i could beat that woman at her sailor's vernacular........i was aghast.....but look her court fees were paid, and i nearly hurled....i felt sorry for her....I had never witnessed anything like thiis on national TV..and I am REALLY openminded.....THAT was a power play if ever i saw one...find impartiality....let me know where and perhaps i shall sign up, until then i won't even vote as i do NOT want to be on the hangman's roster.
Colour me anything you like, ispeak my own truths, you have a great question here, and i am interested to see just who will answer and why......though if you want to know who is guilty of anything or how to profile someone, ina "Yahoo" sort of way...just glance at the best answers that a certain anybody has...and thier questions....it is spot on to single out a lot of very personal things that otherwise will probably go unsaid.
Be sure to pack a lunch.....have fun and play nice with the other jurors.....I will be the one writing the column on "Jury Burnout" when you are through....
Thanks
Cheers,
Lioncourt

It was an eminent domain case. The city of Elmhurst, IL was to acquire a parking lot from a business owner and keep it as a municipal parking lot. The jury was to decide how much money to award -- not only for the cost of the property, but the amount of damages to the business owner for the loss of their property (which may or may not remain a parking lot).

I was the odd man out and I wanted to award them something for damages. Everybody was against me, and I was able to persuade them to grant them $200,000 in damages. The argument I used to persuade the jury to my way of thinking was the notes I kept from testimony from a city employee. He testified that the reduction in the size of the property as a whole, in-and-of-itself reduces the value of the remainder.

UPDATE: I was a law major as well, and it didn't seem to make a difference as I was still selected.

July of 2003. I voted guilty. A gang member and his friend were hired by their Uncle to beat up and shoot a guy who was dating 2 women at work. The Uncle liked these women and was jealous. He turned the kids in so he wouldn't go to jail, he got off scott free. Then the friend also turned on his partner and got a lesser sentance.

It was interesting, there was lots of gun residue on both kids hands and clothes to prove they fired the gun found at the scene.
