There are pills and patches you can get from your doctor. Also, there are classes and support groups. Some folks try hypnosis. It's not easy, I'll admit, but the benefit to your health will make the discomfort and inconvenience well worth it. Lots of people try to quit and are not successful, so don't consider yourself a failure. There's an old saying: "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again." Good luck to you, my friend! I hope you make it this time.

First, you have to want to quit. You have to reach the point where you say enough is enough. If you're not there yet, it won't work. I knew I was ready when smoking became embarrassing..
If you can get through those first 3 days without a smoke, the rest will get better. It takes about 3 days to get over the physical symptoms of withdrawel- after that, it's all mental.
Quitting was the best thing I ever did. You don't realize how bad it smells until you've quit. Food tastes better, I can smell things better and my lungs are breathing a sigh of relief.
You can do it! Good luck!!

Exercise is extremely helpful; it also reminds you how bad smoking has been for you...In addition, stop drinking coffee and alcohol since whenever a smoker has a coffee or drinks alcohol, he/she feels like smoking....In general, just follow an overall healthier lifestyle...
That's it...And of course, just stop smoking; no replacement nonsense with patches, gums, etc. Books also don't help; I am sure you already know that smoking is a very bad thing; instead of wasting an hour reading about how bad smoking is, just put your running shoes on and go run for an hour; that's much better...
That's how I did it when I was 19; that's like 13 years ago...
It's all about determination and self-discipline...

I smoked for a while and quite about 3 months ago. I smoked half a pack a day for about 2 months and one day I just decided to throw all my ciggs out and quite cold turkey. It wasn't hard for me surprisingly, just know that even though you can buy ciggarettes try not to go get them, and try not to think about them. Occupy yourself and stay busy, it keeps them off your mind. Also if you are under a lot of stress and want a cigg really badly, just inhale deeply and exhale through your mouth, it helps for me and makes me feel better if I keep doing it. There are still times when I want a ciggarette normaly under high pressure, but I refuse them and just go about my day. Also, this is up to you, but smoking marijuana helps... (it's also healthier, despite the negative propaganda the government is filling your minds with... read up on it and you'll see it's much safer that ciggs) I found that it's not exactly nicotine in my system that relieves my cravings, but basicly just smoke in my lungs... it helps a lot trust me.

I bought the book " The easy way to stop smoking" by Allen Carr.
Never ever thought it'd do any good (except laugh at) yet I stopped when I read it and haven't smoked since November 13 2005.

IT'S BEEN A YEAR AND A HALF SINCE MY OPEN-HEART SURGERY, AND MY LAST CIGARETTE. I WAS A SERIOUS TWO AND A HALF TO THREE PACK A DAY SMOKER, AND THERE'S NOT A DAY THAT GOES BY THAT I DON'T THINK ABOUT IT AT LEAST ONCE. IT'S SORT OF LIKE AN ALCOHOLIC AND BOOZE. JUST ONE AND YOUR BACK TO SQUARE ONE. BUT I JUST KEEP DOING THE MATH. I FIGURE I'VE SAVED WELL OVER THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS SO FAR. THE MONEY IS A PRETTY GOOD MOTIVATOR, BUT TRUTH BE TOLD, OPEN-HEART HURT LIKE A *****, AND I'M NOT IN ANY HURRY TO GO DOWN THAT ROAD AGAIN.

I use cig filters. each week it takes more nicotine away each time u smoke, i've cut down from 25 cigs a day to 5-10. Then by the 4th week I will completely be done. The phsyical withdrawls is what kills. Coughing up mucus, headahces, sweats, fever.. I've had it all.. good luck. Its worth it

A lot of smokers just like the idea of having something in their hands to occupy them or smoking is just something to do when you feel awkward around others. You could try to carry something to fiddle with & chew gum or suck on candy.

It took me a long time, and I slipped up a bit, but I haven't had a cigarette since July. And no whenever I'm near smoke, it makes me sick.
Willpower is all it takes.
