because they suck

The yankees simply do not know how to put a champion caliber team on the field anymore. Back when in 96', 98, 99' & 00', the yanks had a key core of home grown players that they built around like Jeter, Bernie Williams and Pettite. Now they think they can just buy a championship with players like Damon, A-Rod, Giambi etc. They just don't get it anymore. Another thing is that the Yankees have no pitching. They sign Randy Johnson who is way past his prime and he can't do anything. He's gone now but the glaring wholes in the rotatiuon remain. Personally I blame the front office for this stupidy and total lack of vision.

Because they can.

The Yankees player management is focused entirely on getting the best players at every position, without any regard (or, at least, with much less than other teams) to cost. Their pockets are deep enough that they can afford this strategy, while teams with more limited budgets have to play with risks a bit - paying less for a player who has more volatility in his numbers, for example. While the Yankees' method doesn't always work out, they get a lot more hits than misses and, when your goal is to make the playoffs every year and don't have budgetary constraints, it's better to waste money on a few players here and there rather than spend less on riskier players.

The Yankees and New York in general requires a winning team. They put this super high image of themselves and have to open the check book to live up to it. Any chance they have to build themselves up or take away from a division rival they will make. They are not afraid to spend. In some ways I am happy to see a team that is committed to winning, but at the same time the Yankees go way too far. There should be limits on what these teams can spend in my opinion.

Most of the players they get do live up to it. It's just that New York and Yankees fans in general have exceptionally high expectations. The Yankees are expected to not just win, but dominate every season. It is impossible for any team to live up to that. As for the money, they spend it because they can.

Because they only like to sign big name players. And the players have usually already peaked by the time they get to the Yankees.

I am answering this question as a Yankees fan. I think it is because they feel that big names will increase merchandise revenue and produce more National TV Spots. I would also like to take this oppurtunity to say that Alex Rodriguez is the most overated player of this era if not ever. (I base this opinion on the fact that he does not make those around him better and his postseason performances)

It sucks that Munson exceeded directly to the whole beyond. He replaced right into a large catcher and a tricky participant. The Yankees and the followers have been fortunate to have him. i needed i'm going to have considered him play as properly. R.I.P. Munson (1947-1979).

the new york media and fans sometimes destroy them mentally. Alot of the time the yankees pick up players because of their past success not realizing it was along time ago and they are old and past their prime.

So that we non-Yankee fans have something to laugh about. Lets hope they give A-Rod a big extension.
