On number one, you first must factor into (5a + 1)(a - 3). You then need to set both sets of parenthesis equal to zero.
5a + 1 = 0 and a - 3 = 0. In 5a + 1 = 0, subtract one from both sides leaving you with 5a = -1. You then divide both sides by 5 which leaves you with a = -1/5. In a - 3 = 0, you simply add 3 to both sides, leaving you with a = 3.

On number two, you first must distribute the x through the parenthesis, giving you 2x^2 - 3x = x^2 + 10. Subtract x^2 from both sides leaving you with x^2 - 3x = 10. Then subtract 10 from both sides leaving you with x^2 - 3x - 10. From there, factor into (x - 5) (x + 2). Set both equal to zero and solve. Final answer x = 5, x = -2.

5a² - 14a - 3 = 0

the middle term is - 14a

Find the sum of the middle term

Multiply the first term 5 times the last term 3 equals 15 and factor

factors of 15

1 x 15. . .<= use these factors
3 x 5

1 abd - 15 satisry the sum of the middle term

1 = a

insert + a - 15a into the equation

5x² - 14a - 3

5a² + a - 15a - 3

a(5x + 1) - 3(5a + 1)

(a - 3)(5a + 1)

1. factor it:
(5a + 1)(1a - 3)= 0
a= -1/5 and a =3

2. 2x^2 -3x = x^2 + 10
x^2 -3x -10= 0
(x -5)(x+2) = 0
x=5 and x = -2

1) 5a^2-14a-3=0
(5a +1)(a-3)
a = -.2 or 3

2) x(2x-3) = x^2+10
2x^2 - 3x = x^2 + 10
x^2 - 3x - 10 = 0
(x-5)(x+2) = 0
x = 5 or -2

Factor the first one to get:
(5a+1)(a-3)
a=-1/5 a=3

2. Distribute the x
2x^2-3x=x^2+10

Simplify and move terms to one side
x^2-3x-10=0
(x-5)(x+2)
x=5 x=-2
