I'm in a flat and it seems that whenever I or my neighbour puts hot water down the drain my drain seems to click incessantly for ages. It's linked somehow to the pipes but I can't seem to make it better. Any thoughts?

The pipe is plastic

The plastic pipework is expanding and has nowhere to go! Look for a jammed section and undo the fitting, cut about 3-4 mm off the pipe and reassemble. OR if its got tight clips or saddles on the pipe, loosen them off a bit.

The piping is probably rubbing against a stud or joist when hot liquids are poured into it. Plastic expands quicker than metal but both will make the noise if too close to wood or plasterboard.

The plastic pipe is expanding with the heat of the water. I do not know of anything to stop it. I've got it in my bathroom and mine only lasts a few seconds.

Its either the molecules are expanding because of the heat on the metal because it was cold, or you have something living in the pipes that freaks out for 20 minutes after getting burned.

You must have a copper waste pipe and what you can hear is the pipe expanding when hot water is run through it. Sorry, there is no cure for this, unless you change your waste pipe to plastic.

Sounds like metal expanding, I think you may have to put up with it. Or sing a song that has similar timing.
