Temp agencies are hired by companies to place temporaary help in a job that requires part time to full time employment. The employer pays the agency a certain percentage or set wage on your employment at a company. You receive a certain pay from the agency. You might be employed for a few days or you could be employed as long as that particular company wants you. You can be let go at any time without any notice to you for any reason. You will receive no benefits from the company and limited benefits from the agency. Temping is good if you only want to work at different jobs until you find one you really like. Then you could talk with that employer to see if they want to hire you direct.
I have found that Manpowwr, Express Personnel, Snelling and Snelling, Wilstaff, Aerotek,, etc are ALL good. Look in your Yellow Pages to find what Temp. agencies are in your area. These companies and more do not charge you any monies. They are free to you for your job hunting. Good luck in your job hunting.

You don't pay the agency to find a job. The agency solicits other businesses for jobs they need filled. The business then sets up a contract with the temp/staffing agency.

When you go to the staffing agency, they will have you list your skills, education and prior employment (if any). Depending on the type of job you're looking for they'll give you typing, filing, or software (excel, word, powerpoint) tests. Just to see if you would be a good match for the prospecting company.

Manpower, SOS Staffing, Kelly, Westaff are familiar companies. If you don't like the agency for whatever reason, you're not bound to stay with them.

Always be punctual, friendly and do the most for your job because a temp job can become permanent.

No- do not pay them. They cushion their pay in to a fee from the people in need of temp.

It's a good way to earn a living and have the opportunity to say "no" there should be a list of temps in your state.

You go in and interview and they test you on how many tasks you can do - (PC) etc.
They may throw a few jobs at you right there and if none appeal say "no" -

Sometimes out of school or if you are in the market of a fantastic job you can hire a head hunter - generally they just take the % of a finder fee - (from the employer).

You have to pay them an upfront fee (not sure how much) but I've heard in most cases, you'd have to go to 2 or 3 to actually find a job in the line of work you're looking for.
