The current system of the presidency is dictated byt he articles in the constitution. Since Hanson was chosen by the congress under the Articles of Confederation, his tenure as "president" is not identical to the role filled by Washington. He was "a president" but not of the United States as they exist today.

I also had no idea he was black.

i heard of that dude before, all i can say is we claimed our independence in 1776 and washington wasnt in office till 1789, i never knew john hansen was black, i kinda doubt that
