If it's in a bowl with no filter, I would strongly suggest you clean it out and replace all of the water every 2-3 days. A small bowl with no filter will never properly cycle and therefore will never provide a stable ammonia free environment for the fish.

Despite popular belief, bettas belong in a min of 5 gallon in a heated and filtered tank. The water should be 82 degrees F. The tank needs to be cycled before adding the betta.... to answer your question, not only is it okay to clean the bowl that often, it is needed. The ammonia produced by the fish will build up to toxic levels in an unfiltered tank. You may even want to do it twice a week. Make sure you treat the new water with a dechlorinator before adding your betta.

That seems about fine. But I would recommend only changing half of the water so that his environment is not totally changed. Also, let the water sit out for a couple of days before (so the it is decholinated and at the right temperature). And, I would just rinse the tank (don't use any soaps, unless especially for fish tanks)... Good luck!

Yes. and it is actually better for your beta, especially if it is in a small tank. Just be sure not to clean it out completely, and DO NOT use soap! Also it is a good idea to have some "stress relief" solution on hand, just in case. Be sure to either leave the new water out overnight, or get a de-clorinating solution that gets rid of the clorine in the water, if the fish runs that over its gills, it will die.

I'm an owner of 2 healthy bettas and they live in half-gallon tanks with no filter, and, despite popular beleif, bettas would be just fine in those little cups you buy them in, since they live in Corn Paddies in Japan, which are very small. Anyway, My betas are perfectly healthy and I clean their bowls about once every month. It's not very normal to clean their bowls once a week though. They are very low-maitenance. And, maybe, your fish has fin rot which is a disease bettas get. Once my fish had that and then his water kept getting all dirty and I had to clean it as often as you. But there's medicine for fin-rot so don't worry your fishy won't die if he has fin rot as long as you treat him soon.
