Are they a result of the "time out generation", and did their parents neglect to tell them that "life isn't fair"?

To the third poster below:

Expecting people to take personal responsibility for their actions and life is compassionate...not making others pay for them.

Start by being naive, uninformed, misguided, and easily led.

While I tend to be mostly middle of the road, I DO have Liberal tendencies. This was not a result of the "time out" or a neglect of my parents telling me that "life isn't fair" (that was actually one of my father's favorite sentences, along with "you can't always get what you want").

Instead, it was a gut-kicking reaction to the hypocrisy that I saw while attending church and life in general - followers of a person who said "love everyone" and ate with sinners and prostitutes were too busy hating their neighbors and judging each other to worry about things like LOVE and PEACE for the very people they were trying to convert.

Needless to say, I left that religious persuasion, but I still found it present in the rest of the world. Now, I find I hold spiritual beliefs, but they are MY beliefs. My parents may not understand, but they figure that as an adult, I can make my own FREE CHOICE. They do not feel it is their right to judge me on my beliefs (religious or otherwise), because they believe I've been given free will - they can show me THEIR way, but I have the ability to choose it or not. That does not mean they're entitled to HATE me for it, as I said, they follow Jesus, and HE showed how you could share your life with and show love toward prostitutes and sinners and STILL maintain your own truth.

Yes, life ISN'T fair, yes, some people have more than others...but that does not mean we are justified in letting them rot because we may not agree completely on every issue. That is NOT humanity. What it DOES mean is that we should be willing to try and make society the best it can possibly be, REGARDLESS of how your neighbor feels about religion, race, etc. This does not mean you have to pay money out to the poor. You could just set a good example in your life that others will follow that, while life isn't fair, HATE is not the way either.

Well life isn't fair, but it's not asking too much to demand that ELECTIONS can and MUST be, and that the Constitution be followed and not treated like just, as Dictator Dumbya said, "a GD piece of paper". As a liberal, I think Dictator Dumbya and Chain Gang Cheney should be given a "time out", a really long one, in a nice Federal taxpayer supported super max facility called Pelican Bay where he could think about all the crimes they committed in the office to which they were NEVER elected. THAT would be fair.

LIBERALS
Liberals share a belief in individual rights, free enterprise, representative democracy, and the rule of law. In this sense, almost all Americans accept liberal ideas. So much so that it is easy to forget how revolutionary these ideas were when the American Constitution was written. Thomas Jefferson said, “Peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations, entangling alliances with more.” All of our founding fathers considered liberalism a foundation of “the great experiment”. America since Reagan, liberalism has been colored to appear weak and elitest and our military force is used to intervene in other nations affairs.
Think liberal, think BIG.

The only people who hold to "life isn't fair" are those who purposely make it unfair for others for their own benefit.

And one more thing.. Personal Greed is NOT the same as Personal Responsibility.

I think we are all born expecting nourishment and protection. We are a society that believes in both independence and interdependence. We cannot survive in a modern society without that interdependence. In contrast, symbiosis and co-dependence are debilitating and dehumanizing.
I would say life IS fair to those who take responsibility for their lives. Also, it is fair to those who blame others, minimize, and live in denial. At some point, people stop supporting their failures. I believe in having a safety net. I do not believe in LIVING in a safety net.

You cure yourself of religious zealotry and fundamentalism, you learn what science is all about, you stop being a genocidal racist, you stop putting your own greed before everyone else, including your own children (before you open your mouth: Cheney vs. lesbians or gay folks in general; Dumbya allowing pollution to go on for his money even if his drunk daughters will probably live in hell caused by pollution); you realize the Earth is round... basically, you have a brain; therefore, you stand no chance. Go cook and clean for your fat pig Rush, woman, your party doesn't allow even intelligent women to speak, let alone you.

funny, seems like a silly question to me.

you dont see me asking "how does one become a conservative? your poor mother drops you on your head as a small child or what?"

you can stereotype "liberals" all you want but if your conservative in this day and age....LOOK AROUND in politics right now...you have no right to mock us about a damn thing. all of sudden lieing about who sucked your dick in the oval office doesnt seem like such an impeachable offense....but starting a greedy 4 year war that should have lasted only "a couple weeks at the most" is just politics i guess.

We have common sense that seems to be lacking in the Republican Party. Without common sense you fell by the wayside, sorry for the Republicans that just can't get over being left behind by their own party. Sorry, you will finally learn that the people have spoken they don't like your party anymore, SOOORRRYYY.
