It would have to be someone who brought about a revolution in human thought and way of life. The 20th century has so many of them, it's hard to say.

What about Gavrilo Princip, who assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand in 1914? Sparked WWI, helped bring about the Russian Revolution and Hitler's rise to power, Return to Normalcy, WWII, Cold War, and everything clear through the present day.

President Ronald Reagan. He defeated communism without firing a shot and brought America back from Jimmy Carter's depression. People were proud to be Americans again.

A lot of people don't know it and many won't admit it, but the corrupt Bill Clinton was taking credit for Reagan's economic policy, Reaganomics. We haven't had a real president since Reagan.

oh... the choices....
I would have to say The Black Hand, the Serbian terrorist group who assasinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand.
I say this because if Franz Ferdinand had not been assasinsated, WW1 might not have been started, which means that Germany would not have been deperate enough to turn to Hitler, and ww2 would have never taken place. Plus, the US stock market may never have crashed because ww1 would never have taken place.
This probably isn't the best choice, but there are so many choices and this was the first one that i really thought about.
Cheers.

Pope John Paul II. He had a long and successful reign as Pope. He helped break the Communist stranglehold in Poland. That began the fall of Soviet Communism. He will be canonized a saint some day.
