I have been with my husband for 6 yrs. We just got engaged and want to try to start a family. The problem is that my husband thinks that he cannot have children because every girl he's been with has never gotten pregnant. It also does not help that he had some form of Hodgkin's disease when he was younger. It's been 12 yrs cancer free and the fact that he thinks it's impossible is hurting the relationship. I need some kind of information to let him know there's a possibility we can make some babies.

My husband and I had that same problem when he told me that he thinks that he cannot have children because every girl he's been with has never gotten pregnant but he got a sperm count done and he trued out fine and I was told by a doctor I cant have kids unless I go though some procedure to have them but 3 months later I got pregnant on our own and are relationship was not in jeopardy because we were told that. It probably made the relationship stronger.

Treatments for Hodgkin's disease may occasionally result in serious long-term side effects. Some chemotherapy drugs can cause permanent infertility although newer treatments carry less risk of this. Treatment with chemotherapy and radiotherapy can lead to a slightly increased risk of developing another cancer later in life. However, modern treatments and approaches to treating Hodgkin's disease are designed to limit these risks as much as possible.

Easy, just tell him to go to the Dr. and see how fertile he is.. Tell him that if he loves you and wants this to work then you guys need to do something about it!! Im sure he will be able to though!!! My fiance thought the same thing.. He had been with his previous girlfriend for 2 years and he couldnt get her pregnant, so he kept telling me "Babe Im not fertile I cant get girls pregnantand sure enough one day.. me and my baby are having a baby.. nothing is impossible, but tell him to let a Dr make the decision for if he is unfertile or not!

Well, then he does certainly have risk factors for being sterile so he needs to get checked. If he is willing, call his dr. or your OB/Gyn and have them order a semen analyasis. If he isn't up for that, then there is a home test you can buy to check his sperm count. It's called FertilMarq--http://www.babyhopes.com/fertilmarq.html

go to the drugstore and get a test. they have them for men too! if you cant find it, ask the pharmacist!
