The US participation in WW1 proved that the US was a major world power. Their presence shifted the balance of power and their untapped resources helped their allies to a large extent.

However, they did not play a significant role in drafting the Treaty of Versailles. In fact, if I remember correctly, they walked out before it was done. England, and especially France were out to punish Germany for the war, not just try to prevent another one.
