I don't becuase it may make the US weaker internationally. Even though introducing free trade across the board makes the general welfare larger, it doesn;t necessarily mean that you will be in better position later. The government's job is to watch out for American interests -- not the world as a whole. half the reason I pay taxes is because I assume that the government is taking care of my economic interests as best it can. Sadly, the only framework I'm willing to allow get the benefit is my own nation; I'm just not ready to go out of my way to ensure that the rest of the world gets a piece of my pie.

Yes. There are way too much economic politics that is based on interest groups dealing with politicians. It is crazy how much they can turn around and sell to the American people as good for you. These policies tend to deal will the rich getting richer and are seldom good economics or good for the nation. Getting ride of trade barriers is good for the consumer, and that is all of us.

They will tell you it is save jobs (their marketing hype) but take the sugar situation. The US is very restrictive in favor of the US sugar lobby. Save sugar beat farmer jobs right? Well sugar prices are 100% to 200% higher than they should be. Many manufacturers that use a lot of sugar have been moving out of the country the last couple of years as they can get ingredients a lot cheaper elsewhere. We probably will lose 10 jobs for every one job saved.

No, The tariffs were originally put in place as means government funding so as not impose taxes on the the American people. It also made us stronger as a nation because we relied a lot less on foreign merchandise, which then in turn boosted the local economy.

No. Our trade balance is so far out of whack right now, and it's ruining our economy. With everything that's imported being so inexpensive, it's hard to get people to buy things made here, even when the quality is so much better.

No. Too far reaching, you never know what powers we will need in the future.
