You cannot call Sri Lanka a cheat without calling the ICC official governing body and umpires cheaters. All matches are governed by ICC and their subordinates not by Sri Lankas governing body. If it was not a appropriate action then it would never have been out and according to the umpire on the ground and by the match referee but by their perspective it was acceptable.

This again raises the issue of effective umpiring and regulation by the governing body ICC. Unless something major happens to put disripute into the match and lose revenue the ICC will not interfere and its interference is only for show and ineffective.

Remeber the Pakistan V England match umpired by Hair. Pakistan were penalised for conduct, Hair was penalised for poor decision but the match referee was not penalised.

An effective governing body would have dealt with all those that had direct control and responsibility.

ICC is incompentant and only competant when it concerns its money. Dont blame Sri Lanka blame the Umpires and the governing body who chooses not to take action.

Whilst I think that some of the insults hurled your way are equally as juvenile and pedantic as your question, I am pleased to see that some people remain level-headed in reacting to your absurd question.
A number of your respondents point out that the decision was referred to the 3rd umpire, who gave Lara out. Quite how you can call that cheating is beyond me! The wicketkeeper is perfectly entitled to appeal if he thinks there is a CHANCE that he may have got his man. It is not his decision whether the batsman is actually out, however.
Pablo Bro is quite right - virtually all cricketers "cheat" nowadays - by waiting for the umpire to decide if they were out or not when they know full well that they did nick the ball... There is simply too much money riding on high-level sport these days. I'm not talking about the betting, though the match-fixing that has no doubt gone on since long before Hansie Cronje was found out certainly adds to that equation.
It is no longer a "gentleman's" game, it is, like football and rugby, a high-pressure, highly competitive contest with higher stakes than the simple matter of a trophy here and there.
Cricketers are now probably coached to NOT walk - though it is refreshing to see that some still do - and also to appeal for even the most unlikely dismissals.
We will continue to see wrong decisions from umpires and we will continue to see players pushing the boundaries of the rules, because they are competitive and want to win. I don't think there are very many cricketers that actually CHEAT at their game - I always think: if you have to cheat to win then maybe you should play a different game... but most people will take what good fortune comes their way, whatever their nationality.
Grow up! Don't throw your toys out of the pram just because someone got it wrong.

While every team and players have the right to appeal, final decision is taken by the umpires. In Lara's case, since the field umpire was not sure whether Lara was out or not, the matter was referred to 3rd umpire and after watching the replays in the T.V. Larea was declared out. No one can call any team cheat for such dismissals.

It is not a one man game. One fails, another successes! Don't blame for sharp play of Sri Lankan wicket keeper, hat off for him. It is Lara's carelessness. Better find another Lara amoung your remaining 10 players. Sri Lanka have come all the way out of Windies vote for Test status! Time to respect. At least now time to take lessons from Sri Lankans in batting, fielding & bowling.

hey are you trying to prove yourself to be cleverer than the referees?
well too bad, coz your opinion is not considered. i'm sure the referees are highly qualified, and you may have the knowledge too, but that's the way it is. it was given out! but u have no right to label sri lanka as cheats because u seem to be mad at something that has happened once. i'm sure these things happen in other games too. best example would be not-outs, where the referees tend to call it a wicket when it clearly wasn't. we cannot do anything about it, so why don't we all just enjoy the games. WE CANNOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT!!!

All teams do it at all levels, eg. not walking when you know you edged the ball and it was caught, claiming the catch when you know it really didn't carry, the bowler running in the danger zone, sledging (the Aussies are good at that one), ball tampering, and many other ways. It is cheating but some would claim it was gamesmanship and that you play as close to the laws as possible and outside of them if you can get away with it. It happens in all sports now because they are no longer sports but businesses and people earn their living doing what in the past they did for free and fun.

Blame the officials.

Cricket has video referees etc to sort out all difficult decisions and should use them for all borderline decisions.

Perhaps if all contentious actions are scrutanised then any chance of match fixing will be wiped out and possibly no further officials and or managers or players will be murdered as a result of the wrong people involving themselves in the great game.

it was dodgy but there are hundreds of debatable umpiring decisions every year and sri lanka would almost certainly have won the game in the end

O yes this is game which depends on Umpires decision. i under stand he might be wrong or right what he decide that is right.
i can understand that it is a big loss of lara's wicket. other wise the WI was a winner of yesterday match.

but time is gone. nothing can be changed now.
