Hi! My female betta is getting really fat. I think she's just getting ready for breeding, but my mom thinks otherwise. She's just fat, doesn't show any weird behavior, and is not near any male bettas. Would it be okay if we just left her alone, or do you people think it's somthing else? Thanks!

It really could be either. One little give away is an egg spot. If she has this then it's almost certainly eggs making her fat. Here's a picture of a female with an egg spot. it's that little white thing right under her belly.

If you can't see that, then you might be over feeding a bit.

Hope that helps

It sounds like she may be contsipated. This is a seriouse problem, that could kill her. Luckily, it is easily treated. Do not feed her for a full day (this treatment won't hurt her even if she isn't constipated, so I would give it a try) on the second day, take a frozen pea, put it in the microwave for aprox. 30 second. take it out, peel it. Then cut half of the pea into tiny pieces (about half the size of her eye) feed her three pieces in the morning, repeat again in the evening. the next day, give her a pellet or two in the morning if she looks better. To prevent constipation, feed pea as a treat once a week. Make sure you do not overfeed your betta. A female could prolly eat 2 pellets twice a day and be perfectly healthy. My male betta gets three or four pellets twice a day.

Betta's can put on extra weight if they are over fed. If she is developing egg's there is nothing to worry about, she will expel them and probably eat them.

Good luck.

She's probably just bloated! if you have a salt water take which you probably don't. you can get a cup of water from the tank and just dip her in it for a couple of seconds. but if she's not bloated, then more then likely your just feeding to much.
